“If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.” From “The Brothers Karamazov” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Jeff died peacefully Sunday, May 29, 2011, on the first anniversary of his marriage to his beloved Kathy.
Thus began Jeff’s obituary, and what a fitting description of him. I’m sure it is how everyone will remember him.
As I looked at his picture, I saw a young man with a strong, kind face and gentle smile. Gone was the boy I remembered from years past. But it seems that sweet spirit I knew had remained and flourished.
I wonder what Kathy thought. She had been his bride for exactly one year, before his soul departed to meet the Divine Bridegroom. I hope she will always be comforted in remembering that their wedding day is forever joined to Jeff’s entrance into eternal life.
I will continue to pray for the repose of Jeff’s soul. But it is my hope in the Divine Mercy, that this kind and gentle young man, who suffered so much during what should have been one of the happiest years of his life, may have been purified on his earthly pilgrimage, and have already entered into the Wedding Feast that will never end.
